Port Forwarding Troubleshooting

Hi - I'm trying to set up port forwarding for running G6 FTP server with an
NTT MN7300 modem/router - I've found and translated (From Japanese Lang) the right page in the
config - and have entered the following values:

LAN side IP Address: 169.254.82.211
Protocol: TCP
LAN Side Port Number: 20
ADSL Side Port Number: 20

and

LAN side IP Address: 169.254.82.211
Protocol: TCP
LAN Side Port Number: 20
ADSL Side Port Number: 20

My Ipconfig reads:

Off hand, I'd say that you forgot to foward port 21. FTP uses two ports, 21 for the interactive connection and 20 for data transport. If you use PASV mode transfers, then you only need port 21 open.

Another potential issue is DNS. FTP servers traditionally use RARP (Reverse Address Resolution Protocol). When you connect to the server, if it doesn't drop your connection right away, but doesn't send you any data either, just wait. After about 40 seconds it will give up on the RARP and just use your IP address for logging. It will give you a login prompt after that.
