Port 8080

My linux box is behind a router and is in the DMZ. I can see the apache server on port 80 but not a secondary web server on port 8080. Why? And what can I do about it?

most likely you'll need to set up an access list on the PIX that allows connection attempts via the outside interface to the DMZ for port 8080 on that server.

OK, maybe some more information. I'm running Redhat 8.0 with all the updates. The router is a linksys DSL router with 4 port switch. I have the linox box on 192.168.1.2 and that ip is listed as being in the DMZ. If from the inside I point to 204.xxx.xxx.xxx I get the web page served up by apache and if I point to 204.xxx.xxx.xxx:8080 I see another page served up by ZServer. But from the outside I can only see the web on port 80 not on port 8080. Are there firewall settings I need to open so this is visible? Or something in the IP settings (ipchains, iptable)?

You can soon test if its your (ipchain/iptables) firewall rulse by droping your firewall out for a quick test with /etc/rc.d/init.d/ip{chains or tables) off

Choose from chains or tables for your distro ..

But my guess is that your Linksys router needs to be set to allow requests in for 8080!

Check your Linksys documentation.

Hi... You'll need to configure your Linksys... goto the Advanced settings...> Forwarding...> and add in a port/port range under Ext.Port...> Then choose either UDP or TCP depening on what you're using...> Then add the IP address of the Server with the 8080 port...> Then check Enable...> Apply...> Then it should work from the outside.
