Hello,

I work in IT and have seen a lot of strange things but I cannot figure this one out. I have a client with a SBS 2003 and five XP Pro workstations. Two of the workstations and the server have the same problem. I cannot access pages via http. Https works fine on all the system. The server and one workstation currently have IE7 on them, the other workstation is running IE6.

This all started yesterday and nobody installed any programs or anything else. However they may have received an update from Microsoft. This is what I have tried so far:

Ran winsock fix on one worksation
Tried a restore point on same workstation to a couple of days ago.
On the XP system running IE7 I reset to default settings under the advanced tab. Problem still exists.
Ran netdiag /test:ipsec to see if there is any settings passed on by server
Checked server for GPO's. All workstations in same container, even those that work fine.
Server and router have been reset.
Checked IP settings via ipconfig /all and compared to working system.
Tried to bring up web page of local Linksys router. Does not work on these problem systems but does work on the others working workstations.
Pages using port 443 (https) works fine on all systems.
All systems current on Virus protection. (AVG SBS version)
AVG will not update on problem systems. I think this also uses port 80 but I could be wrong.
Ping, attaching to server, DNS, works fine on all systems.
All systems have the firewall disabled.

Any other ideas would be appreciated. I have seen other problems like this doing a Google search but there is no solutions I could find.

Thanks!

check ie if u have a mandatory https set in trusted sites or intranet (extras/internetotions/security) on the pcs in question

have u tried another browser?

Thanks for the reply. I was going to try another browser but since AVG would not update I assumed it also used port 80, but I could be wrong. I will try that and update the info here tomorrow.
I have not tried the mandatory https on the Internet since i did not think you could set this for the Internet, but I will check that also. I think this does get reset when you reset IE7 to defaults but then again I should not assume anything.

I am having the same issue with a SBS 2003 server. TCP/IP, DNS, NetBIOS, etc. is fine. Nothing using port 80 functions. Have there been any solutions not yet posted?

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the quick response. I have about a dozen of these servers out there and was getting anxious. Most are running Trend and should be OK. The fixfiles did not work so I just uninstalled AVG and all is well.

Thanks again.

Yep, just got back from the client and once I removed AVG it started to work fine. The problem existed even though AVG had been disabled for testing.

This also affected two workstations. These workstations have been updated from Windows 2000 to XP so had WINNT folders instead of Windows folder.

Hope this helps some others.
