Hello ...
Thanx for all people who have helped me the past few days.... I have downloaded an anti trojan software ... It scanned all my ports .. and it found that I have the port 5000 open... on my win xp, it said that it could be infected with the "Blazer 5" and the "Sockets the Troie" trojans ,I already have TWO firewalls installed, i also have an Anti Trojan software... but it does not appear to be deleting or removing the trojan on port 5000, should i close the Port 5000? if so.. how do i close it? .. how can i protect myself... >????

You need to find a utility which will tell you what process is openning the port.

One of the utilities is called "Active ports"

JPirate,

Two firewalls installed is a little silly. Configure the one you feel most comfortable with in an appropriate fashion.

Port 5000 is usually enabled by the uPnP service. You can use Add/Remove Programs, Windows Components, to remove SSDP discovery services and the uPnP client. You can also see this site for a registry change to disable uPnP:

what i mean about the fire walls is... that i have the Win Xp native firewalll .... plus another one i downloaded withch gives me features the built in firewall does not! ..
... that makes two fire walls ... I dont think is too silly

What did you download that has features not found in the native XP firewall?

At the very least whatever you downloaded is not automaticly going to do uPnP port open nor an H.323-based NAT Traversal port open request as would the native XP firewall.

the one i downladed alerts me.. when someone is trying to get in... or something.... XP's firewall does not... and some other features like... allowing some programs to access the internet... the ones i choose.... OK... anywayz... are you trying to say that XP"s firewall is enough? or better?

As an example, your original message was a concern that port 5000 was open.

Now, the native XP firewall will open that automaticly if you enable the uPnP IGD device by installing the uPnP client and the SSD Discovery Service.

Nearly any good firewall you could download, even as freeware, would either block that port or ask if you really wanted it open.
