my ftp site had been stopped for some unknown reason (server is stored at a remote site on win2k-server/SP4) I was unable to start the ftp site until I looked around and found out that my ftp services had been disabled. after starting the ftp service I tried to start the ftp site and got a address already in use error. I did a netstat -an and port 21 is already being used/listened. I changed the port on the ftp site to port 20 and it started with no problems but I cannot use ftp from cuteftp on my client computer. Cute ftp is looking for port21. I think i need to find out what is using port 21 on my remote server, and stop it so assign to ftp site. Can anyone guide me from here?

serbtastic,

I have downloaded the program and it turns out
a process caller servudaemon.exe 1464 was using this port.
I did a net search on it and turns out it is used by a program called superadblocker. I ended the process and ftp was back on port 21. will this process start if I restart the server. thanks for you help.

There is an FTP product called Serve-U which will use the default FTP port 21.

servudaemon.exe 1464 looks suspiciously like the running process for the above so i would check to see if Serve-U is installed, it can be installed as a service so could well re-start aftera re-boot.
