I scanned my system for open Ports and Port 139 is open. Do I need that port? Thanks.

sierrapeac,

You need port 139 open if you are doing any Microsoft networking, like file or printer sharing. You definitely do not want this port open to the Internet. You can use a personal firewall to block access from the Internet to that port if you need it for other purposes.

Yardyy,

Here is another good link that will walk you through the process of closing some of those gaps if your computer is connected to the internet.

Also, Shields UP (it's an online scanner that will scan for services as well as open ports on windows machines) on that website (grc.com) is a good tool for scanning for vulnerabilites.
