Port 135 open

I have read that the Blaster worm opens port 135 on XP and W2K machines. However, I have a number of computers on my network of XP, W98 that have port 135 opened and don't appear to have any viruses on them. Is there a legitimate reason that this port should be opened? If not, it there a way to close it? Thanks for your help.

Yes - Windows file and printer sharing uses port 135.

Just make sure you have updated AV on those machines, and if you don't have a router between them and the internet, you should consider it. Most NAT routers can filter out external port 135 traffic with no problem.
