This is very strange. My port 110 failed to get incoming mails from external. It works after I powercycle the computer, the firewall and the router (not sure which one fixed it). I can send email, I can get on the internet, except getting external emails. LAN email works fine.

Here's my setup

ISP Frame Relay -> Cisco 1700 router -> Cisco 3500XL switch -> Netscreen10 -> Cisco 5500 switch -> Microsoft ISA -> Imail 8.0

something is killing port 110 either at Cisco 1700 router, 3500 switch or the netscreen10. It will go down every night and weekends, then I have to reset the router, firewall or the switch.

I am running active directory. Could this be the problem as well?

I don't know what you have checked, so I will just throw out whatever I can think of.

1. I would upgrade your OS to the latest version that the NS-10 supports. They did many fixes, and one might relate.

2. Check your interface settings for the Cisco switch and force them to 10-base-T (away from "auto") for the port of the firewall. We had this problem once with a NS-10 and the Cisco had trouble negotiating the speed and duplex.

3. Log into the Cisco switch and Check for growing "port errors" on the interface of the Cisco switch that the firewall is on.

4. Does the the 3500XL switch need to be in front of the firewall? The simpler the better.

Hope this helps.
