Popups occur with explorer closed how do I stop? 1

I have a pop up ad open explorer by its self and pop an advertisement daily and it retores time schedules but it is uasly the same time each day. I am running xp pro and on a network with dsl. I need sugestions on how to go about finding how to stop this and where it is originating.

What is running in your taskbar?
Is there any shareware that is running and opening these windows?
Have you tried ad aware? Its free, just do a google search and download and run it. See if you get a lot of hits

You probably have some sort of scumware installed. Get rid of it with Spybot

It is possible that what you are seeing is Messenger service ads. (This is different than the Windows Messenger IM program).

Start, Run, services.msc

Scroll down until you get to Messenger. Double-click it and stop the service, then set its startup option to "Disabled."
