I want to format a cell or actually a column of cells to contain a list of words similar to the comments you can place in a cell. Then I would like to be able to select one of the comments to appear in the cell. I guess you would call it a popup submenu, but Help does not list that as an Excel feature.

I thought I had done this before and just right clicked on the cell to see the list to choose from. One of my coworkers says she has done something like that in Access.

Anybody know how to do this in Excel, or am I completely nuts?

Thanks,

Daniel

Check out Data>Validation the choose List.

The wizard is pretty intuitive, but post back if you need help with it.

Hope that helps,
John

Hi,

Data/Validate - and select List.

Enter either the Range Name of the list or the reference.

John and Skip,

Thanks, I get a dropdown menu like I want in the cell, but so far it only allows one item and not a list of items from which to choose.

Update:

Ah, ha! I found that if I typed a comma then the next term in the list, another comma and the next item, then I got my drop down list of three items like I wanted!

Thanks to both of you!

Daniel

daniel,

If you entered you list on a sheet, for instance your 3 items in Z1:Z3, then in the list textbox..
