populating drop down 2 based on drop down 1 selection

I am using an sql statement to pull values for each drop down box from the sql 2000 database. I just need to know how to make the second drop down box repopulate on update of the first drop down box.
For example, once the user picks a state it provides the second drop down list includes all cities where the company is located in the selected state.
