POP3

Hi,

I have RH 7.2 all work fine, cgi, php/mysql, apache and sendmail, but I can't configure POP3 e-mail, I want send and received mail using mail client (outlook, eudora).
I'm configuring my server with webmin

.
I saw my server has these open port :21,22,25,80,11,443 but 110 (POP3) there isn't opened.
I hope there is people can help me configure POP3, I remember I can use only webmin configure my server.

If port 110 is closed, you need to open it through your firewall. In general, there isn't much to configure with pop3 servers other than if you want them to run as a standalone server or daemon. It just sits there listening to port 110 and when a request comes in, it gets the file at /var/spool/mail/username and sends it to the requesting client (outlook). Since you are using outlook I will assume you want to be able to send and receive mail from a remote machine. To be able to do this, sendmail must be configured to relay mail. If everything is configured correctly, You just have to enter you e-mail server's name in both pop3 and smtp server in your e-mail client.

in the etc /services remove the hash from pop3d entry besides which 110 port is also mentioned.ALso in the sendmail .cf remove/delete the entry just below this
# SMTP daemon options
DELETE THE LINE THAT APPEARS HERE!!!
# SMTP client options
#O ClientPortOptions=Address=0.0.0.0
where it listens only on IP 127.0.0.1 or loopback,this allows by defaultonly local clients to be able to use POP3,therefore needs to be removed.So to allow clients from other pC;s using outlook netscape etc,either write dnl,or #,or delete the entry as i mentioned above,and restart sendmail by going to etc/init.d/rc.d and typing xinetd.
this will start your Pop 3 services

Hi,

thx for help, but again doen't start port 110 .
I saw my /etc/services and I have POP3 enable it's without #
in etc/sendmail.cf I have removed the line:
#O ClientPortOptions=Address=0.0.0.0
now I have only
# SMTP daemon options

# SMTP client options

you toll me restart sendmail with xinetd , but I find this command in etc/init.d and no in etc/init.d/rc.d.
I'm using RH 7.2 and my url is

http://www.host2008.com

, I'm sure my port 110 (POP3) it's closed, if you can try control.
Any other idea for open 110 port ?

I just tested, and there is a pop server available at that address. A good way to test if the port is open is to telnet to the machine on port 110
ie
telnet host2008.com 110

If you are still having trouble connecting, I'd look at the settings in the email client.

now POP3 works, but I want every users can send mail from any IP, but in the same time block spammer.
How configure sendmail port 25 ?
I'm using webmin for configure sendmail.
