pop3 server configuration

how do i setup a mail server in windows 2003 i own tauruscomputers.com and i cant seem to figure out how to do it am i doing something wrong with dns or something. i setup one mailbox but when i input mail.tauruscomputers.com into my incoming server it says it cannot connect please help

What (if any) mail server have you purchased and installed? Exchange?

There's a whole lot wrong with what you're trying to do.

Did you set up the A record for mail.tauruscomputers.com?
Did you forward the POP3 and SMTP ports through your firewall to your email server?
Did you have the reverse DNS record updated?

ok i got it, if you ping mail.tauruscomputers.com it comes back with replys also when i go to connect to the server using thunderbird it prompts me for a username and password but no combination works?

What happens if you telnet to mail.tauruscomputers.com over port 25? Does it respond?

You use SMTP to send mail. POP3 is only for retrieving mail.

im also getting a bounce back now reason illegal host or domain name, i would say host because my domain name is registered

Try using your email address for the username.

Well, in SBS, it comes with Exchange, so you wouldn't use POP3.

Have done the steps I outlined earlier?
