What can TYPICALLY cause POP3 to be slow?

Anyway, files sizes of the messages being downloaded, filters on Firewall devices, etc...What do mean slow? Do you have a specific example?

Yeah, I think a large file was sent. But didno thtink it would be too bad since the connection is braodband. User complains that the Outlook hangs when retrieving mail. But figured that it was either timing out due to a large mailbox or it was trying to download a large file.

Are we talking about pop3 connector for exchange, or Outlook running internet mail

When you say that Outlook "hangs" what is the size of the message that is being recieved and how long does it take to download. What if any virus protection do you use amd is it a general problem or just for one specific user.
