My pop3 takes anywhere from 15 to 45 seconds to resolve and make a connection.
I'm thinking it has to be a dns issue but all other services connect instantly.

Also, I don't know if its related but when I restart xinetd I get the following error
two times:
xinetd[4461]: warning: can't get client address: Bad file descriptor
xinetd[4461]: warning: can't get client address: Bad file descriptor

Anyone know what the problem could be?

Is your POP3 connection on a LAN or over the net? I made a major DNS error in my configuration which gave me a long wait before connecting to POP3 and SMTP services.

Check your reverse mappings. Mine were shot
and I had long waits on POP.

Good Luck.
