POP3 connector not delivering to mailboxes

I have set up SBS2003 and set up the POP3 connector to download external mail from certain mailboxes.

The mail is being downloaded sucessfully by the POP3 connector but then does not get delivered and gets put in the "failed mail" folder. An Event Error is logged (id 1061 and/or 1062) saying that delivery failed due the initialisation of the deliverer. The event then logs a delivery information id saying that delivery completed without any errors!!!!!!!

I have reinstalled the connector and run the internet and e-mail wizard several times. The wizard always fails at the e-mail configuration stage but does give any reason why.

Does anyone have any idea how I can resolve this ?

Thank you very much in advance

Are you having this problem on all of the incoming emails? We had a similar problem, but it happened at random.

To solve the problem, we installed a 3rd party POP3 mail connector on the Exchange server. With this product we have had no problems. It has better event logging, is simple to manage, and has some useful options that the standard POP3 connector doesn't have. My favorite is that you can set it to check for new messages more frequently than every 15 minutes...

It has a free 30 day trial if you want to give it a shot.

Sorry I can't help with the POP3 that comes with Exchange, I finally gave up on it ;)

Thanks for the response.

It is happening to all messages at all times. Not a single one has been delivered. The internal mail works correctly, the SMTP server works correctly, the problem lies with the POP3 connector.

I will investigate the 3rd party solutions - it is annoying havng to fork out for an add on when the one that is there should work !! It works just fine on another server I manage in a different establishment !!!

Sorry I couldn't be of much help, your problem just reminded me of the problem that we experienced.

Our problem was frustrating in the fact we didn't even know that there was a problem until people called and asked about emails that they sent. And expected emails, such as order confirmations, on random weren't being delivered. It was unusual and frustrating since there was no apparent cause and because there was no significant sign of problems!

Your issue is interesting considering it doesn't work at all at this site... Surely someone can offer insight!

Good luck...

Have you resolved your issue??

A friend of mine has the exact same problem and hs been struggling to find the answer for some time now. He too used a third party pop collector, which is a little flaky. i have heard of a few instances but yet no solution.

Very annoying and i'd love to know the answer.

Hi

I don't know if this is any help, but whenever I messed about with users settings the same thing your experiencing would happen. I played about and still couldn't resolve it. Didn't touch it over the weekend and on Monday it was ok (Grrr). Had another we mess about with user settings and guess what it happened again. Let it sit for a day (my ear was sore from users phone calls, but hey ya got to try it) and it settled its self again.

Like everyone else I haven't resolved the situation. It seems to be random aswell, because I have another installation with a different company and it works!

Cheers

I have resolved this issue but have never found any reason for it to occur in the first place.

There were some other problems with the server I had just built and after much testing an cursing I discovered a faulty motherboard.

This was replaced and the OS was re-installed. After that the connector works perfectly. Very frustrating !!!

I wish I had some more useful informtion for you. Good luck.
