Hi,

We have a dsl dial-up setup (dynamic ip) and have our mail hosted, we have multiple mailboxes.

For most of our users we are downloading mails using POP3. But, couple of our users travel extensively and need access to mail while travelling. Our hosted mail can be accessed over the web, but with POP3 downloading enabled this is an issue. Our setup is pretty simple and is not available 24x7.
- Can POP3 be configured not to delete mail on the server?
- At this time, we tried not downloading the mail and leaving the mail on the hosted system. But, if the user is configured in Mercury all local mail stays local and the user does not get to see the local mail!! So, how can we deliver the mail to the mailbox on the hosted system (both domain names are the same!).

thanks in advance,
Sarath

Nope. Mercury is a mail server, which means get mail from x and deliver it to y. What you're asking for is a mail client role, and not something that Mercury does.

The (sub)domain name on your local system should not be the same as the server that receives your domain mail at your ISP. Use something like mail.domain.com or something similar.

As for remote users, assuming you don't use a domain mailbox on your ISP, you could have mercury not collect their mail, and have two connections - one to Mercury and one to the ISP, and have the mailc client check both. Or is this what you're attempting to do and running into the local mail problem above?

How can you be in two places at once when you're not anywhere at all?

Hello.
You can leave the message on server when you check your account using e.g. outlook. To make this message available from other location (different computer) you have to modify mercury.ini file. In the section MercuryP of this file you have to add the following line:
Mark_read : 0
Without this parameter, when you set up your mail client to "leave message on server" mercury rename the files with the messages ( e.g. Y65535.CMN to !67654.CMN - which means this message is read ). With Mark_read:0 parameter the name of this file remain the same and it is available for reading from other computer.

I assumed he was talking about MercD, not MercP. If he's trying to leave mail downloaded using MercD on a remote server, he can't. It's been discussed many times on the Mercury Mail support list.
