I'm using Exchange 2000 on Server 2000 (everything patched). I have a few remote clients that use POP3 (outlook 2000 and versamail).

Once a week or so, the client downloads messages normally, but they stay on the server (they do not have the option checked to "leave a copy of messages on the server"). The outlook client continues to download the same messages over and over again....it seems this happens more on Mondays, when their mailbox is full of spam. Most of the time, it works just fine.

And now, a Treo 650 user is complaining of the same thing, and even using the option to delete from the server doesn't help.

Has anybody else seen this situation? Any ideas? help!

Thank you for any suggestions!

In POP3 the messages are all downloaded first then removed from the server. If something interferes with the downloading of the messages, your POP client never get's a chance to remove the messages, even if they already received some.

We had this problem all the time with spam blocking up the works. Either use OWA to manually delete the offending messages in question, or some other POP spam removal tools like MailWasher. Mailwasher will remove spam from the server before the email client has to worry about it.

Good luck!
