I have enabled the virtual pop3 server on my exchange server 2003 but am having problems logging on.

Using outlook 2003, it finds the service and is able to send test emails but is unable to logon. Does anyone know what needs to be inputted for the user name? I have been trying 'username' and 'domain.local\username' but to no effect. Could this be a port problem? What ports should be open?

Many thanks in advance for your help

Test interanal first. Get a client on the same subnet as the Exchange server and make sure you get POP3 working there first. Once that is established, test external clients.

Usually you dont have issues with POP3 pulling mail. Most people have trouble getting SMTP to send mail because they do not know how to get the authentication working. By default your SMTP virtual server will only allow you to relay off the server if you authenticate the session first. This means your POP3 profile must be configured to do so in the SMTP section.

110 POP3
25 SMTP
