I installed a fresh copy of Exchange 2000 on a new server with the same domain that was already present (ofcourse after shutting down the old server running the same domain). After installation everything seems to be fine, except for POP3 access from a remote site. I detached and then attached all the LAN hosts to the new domain that I created. Should the same be done for the remote user who is using a laptop? When I test remote user's profile locally using POP3 it works, but when I test using a dial-up (to simulate his environment), it gives an error which asks me to check for SSL setting that is not done as part of Exchange configuration.

Can someone guide me as to whether the same procedure adopted to LAN hosts (detach and attach) be done for the laptop also or is there any mis-configuration in Exchange 2000?

When on your dial-up are you sure that Port 110 (POP3) on the Exchange server is exposed to the outside world?
Check your NAT /Firewall configs if this is not the case.

If POP3 works fine internally, then there is almost certainly a networking issue between your exchange server and the outside world (Internet).
