We had a situation that came up adn we spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out what was going on so I thought I'd post what we found here.
We have a page on an internal site that uses a pop-up to return a resulting document(Inherited the site so don't ask me why it was programed that way).
The pop-up blocker was turned off but the page would just close and you would still get a "blip" sound but no other message and no requested document. It turned out to be a security setting regarding "automatic" downloads.
This is how to stop the popup blocking from stopping downloads.
Go to Tools menu, Internet Options, Security tab, Internet Zone, Custom level, find the downloads section, look for "Automatic prompting for file downloads" and change its value to "enabled".
This will stop the Information Bar from blocking automatic downloads.
