I am trying to create a pop-up window for a glossary. The only way that I know how to do this is with a Movie in a window. However, I would like the glossary terms to be embedded rather than linked....any thoughts.
thanks.

Don't fully understand what your asking. What do you want embedded?

When you create a MIAW enabling the use of the "open window" which can be used on a "mouseUp", director will bypass the internal cast and automatically prompt you to look for an external file (.dir, .mov, .avi, etc.) to link. I don't want to link a hundred or so little movies...i want them embedded. In short, I want to create a pop up window by using the internal cast.

A MIAW is a totally separate movie with its own internal cast. Can you put the cast members in the MIAW movie. You can't link from one movie to anothers internal cast.

or
make the cast of your main movie an external cast and link both of them to it.
I know that an MIAW is a link file....that is what I am trying to avoid.....I don't want 100 MIAWs linked to my projector....that's very cumbersum not to mention a hassel come burning time. Anyway, I think that I have figured out how to do it by turning on and off the visibility of the sprite....however, now I have to group sprites....but they have that code at Macromedia......So I guess, the bottom line is that I am making some head way but if you have any information on grouping sprites (in particular, about how the script us the "me" keyword to identify sprtes.....how does it know whih sprite to talk to? Thanks for your help
Related question with potential for being a solution:
can an imported dcr (basically a film loop) with
enabled Lingo send messages to the movie containing
it, eg., to change a text member?

answer to you problem :
while you are designing the movie, design the separate window (within the movie's dimensions) and put a sample text/cast member is it. and create a "close window" button in it too.
now set the visible of the three members to false.
when you want it to show up, simply change the text/member then make the window , the member inside and the close window button visible. When you press that button, it will make them all invisible again ,
If you need further help, don't hesitate to ask me :)
