Disable Windows messenger service if you want the pop ups to stop.

- Disabling Messenger Service in Windows XP

Aside from that make sure Windows is up to date and your firewall is turned on. Also make sure your computer isn't infected with malware. Trend Micro has a really good online scanner. Go to and run the scanner and see if it picks up anything.

If you do not have anti-virus or spyware prevention software installed, get some. There are some pretty good free versions available.

- For virus protection

AVG Free -
Avast -
- For spyware protection

Windows Defender -
AVG Anti-Spyware Free Edition -
Here is a pretty good FAQ to look at.

Greetings,
As Joey said, go to the web site for Diabling Messenger Service & follow the directions You might also want to download HijackThis for added peace of mind from:

It has other apps you might be interested in. Download HJT to your Desktop & double click the icon there.
By default it should install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Open the Hijack This folder & double click on the HJT app.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file (you can add a date to it in the Save As dialog box). The log will open in notepad (if it doesn't, double click on the log icon in HJT to open it up). Copy & paste the log in this thread.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hope this helps.
