POP refused

I have an NT4 network with Exchange Server5.5 running. In an attempt to give my remote users POP and SMTP access I have discovered that NNTP and POP are not listening. It seems that the ports are open, but as soon as a connection is established in with port 110 it is INSTANTANEOUSLY closed.
I need help big time. TIA.

There is probably something else using the port. Like anti-virus. Try stopping services one by one and see if you are eventually able to connect.
