poor preview quality in quark, pdf

I'm importing illustrator eps graphics into quark. I understand that the preview in quark is poor quality and that it will print fine, but it also outputs poorly in pdf form, which I need to be very readable.
Any ideas on how I can get around this?

Are you using distller - and what are your setting you are using?
