Poor Parameter Query Performance on Linked Tables

Would anyone know why a query based on one SyBase linked table (ie no joins) with 3 primary keys would run so much slower (10 mins) when the parameter is a variable referencing a form control... compared to when the parameter is a literal value (5 secs)? Strangest part is that this performance gap is almost non-existent on any of the other linked tables when I do the same comparision.

Any Ideas?
