Have you checked these settings, WMP/ Tools/ Options/ Devices?

Audio CD Properties dialog box.

Use the Audio CD Properties dialog box to change the playback and copy settings that are used when playing or copying (burning) CDs.

The following options are listed in the Audio CD Properties dialog box:

Digital (playback).

Specifies that digital mode is used when playing CDs. Audio is sent to your speakers as digital data. If your hardware does not support digital playback, analog playback may be used even though the Digital option is selected.

You must click this option if you want to use the graphic equalizer or the SRS WOW settings when playing CDs.

Analog (playback).

Specifies that analog mode is used when playing CDs. Audio is sent to your speakers as analog data. When analog data is used, your equalizer and SRS WOW settings do not affect the audio playback.

There are also similar settings in the Device Manager, Cd-Rom, properties, which should be checked.
