I use Arcserve 6.61 (fully patched) with WinNT Server 4.0.

My problem: I use a daily backup routine (no GFS). I have tapes I want to permanently archive. Once in the save set, I do Location Maintenance, and mark them as SAVE.

Problem: They periodically show up in the scratch set!! So then I move them back to the save set. I tried to track this issue, but came up empty-handed. Arcserve tech support says, that once in the save set and properly set to a location, they should stay there.

What am I missing? thank you

THe movement of media from save set to scratch set depends
on the retention period of the media pool.
If you want to permanently archive some of the tapes, unassign them completely from the media pool and as they
are already marked as offsite.
This information is going to be useful only till the media
information is in the database, after that if you want to
restore from your archived tapes you have to anyway get the
tapes from offsite and merge it in before the restore.
If you want more clarification let me know.

Thank you for the answer. It was so obvious, but that solution never occurred to me!
