It is my understanding that it is possible to pool TNs on Option 11 Succession switches. How is this possible? And what are the advantages?

Back in 1975 when Nortel was called Northern Telecom, All TN's could be used for anything you wanted. Then they came out with having to buy TN's for each thing you wanted to Build. If they have change it back again I haven't heard about it.

This is a Signature and not part of the answer, it appears on every reply.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

yes, you can pool your ISM for your PBXes. You create a network pool of PBX and you can share ISM from 1 PBX to another.

You have to contact nortel and register the network pool with them, then a designated contact would be labeled as the site administrator and that person can login into KRS and generate keycodes for the desire ISM.

ie...3 pbx in the network pool, pbx a needs Digital ISM, pbx b has plenty to spare, site admin access and krs and "share" pbx b digital ism for PBX a. 2 keycodes will be generated, 1 for the decrease in pbx b and 1 for the increase in pbx a.

the limitation is this only apply to the systems of the same major release, only for pbx, the receiving system has to be at the same service level or lower, no branch or dsn system.

nortel has more doc regarding this procedure, just contact them for the pp presentation and docs detailing the cost and benifits.

From my experience you can only do that with PBX's that are sucession 4.0 and higher.

and you are on the hook to NORTEL to prove to them that you lowered one site and upped the other

I had a customer ask me "what if I don't install the lower ISMs at the Donor site and just install the upped keycodes at the site where ISMs are going up...?"
I said , "I guess you get in trouble with NORTEL?"

For me, the pain is when they transfer ISMs from one site to the other you have to sysload the switch once you install the lower keycode ISMs.... sucks....

According to my Nortel Rep:

to Pool ISM's the PBX's involved must be enrolled in SRS and on the same Release Level of software.

It is my understanding that you have to print out the SLT info from LD 22 on both switches and send to Nortel as proof of compliance.

Are you saying Nortel doesn't know? THey issue every bit of it down to the SSN.

pronei - you are correct on the same rls info. They will make exceptions for upgrade scenerios.

I think they all have to be the same to start out with.
