Hi All,

Has anyone managed to get the new Polycom VVX500 phone registered and working as a 3rd party IP Endpoint on the IPO? I need a video phone that works with a door phone setup over the system, so far tried the new Grandstream, that rgisters and works fine for voice but cuts off the call when you try and use video (I believe as its one way video only?? ) So I am now trying the Polycom unit, but that won't even connect... any tips/help would be appreciated

Regards

Tony

Whatever you use needs to do direct media path for the video call to the other video device and vice versa, the IPO will not negotiate video codecs/streams between the devices :)

Thanks amriddle,

so just set the extensions to allow direct media and that should help??

also any idea why the VVX won't even register?

Just checked the config of the site, allow direct media is ticked for both the Paxton Video door phone and the 3rd Party IP Endpoint extension, so I guess unless theres another setting to force direct media thats not the issue?

No, the end points need to negotiate directly, the DMP setting on the system is to do with audio only :)

Basically you need to take the IP Office out of the equation completely :)

Sorry to be thick here, but are you therefore saying that the door phone needs to call the IP address of the desk phone? via URL?

Oddly enough video works fine using the avaya softphone

Also if calling the URL of the SIP phone that would mean that the call could not go into a hunt group on the Avaya if the Video phone doesn't answer ?

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that Avaya can't handle video...... I mean they only own a massive videoconferencing company after all lol ..........

I've had the video softphone working to a 3rd party device, but never 2 3rd party video devices :)

The video conferencing part was bought over a decade after the IP Office was born though :)

I can call the softphone from the doorphone and it works fine, obviously only one way video as the doorphone doesn't have a display, i just cant seem to get the doorphone to call the grandstream and hold the call up,,

Is there any way to use the softphone in conjunction with a normal desk handset, e.g. picture comes through softphone on pc but speech is handled at the Avaya 9508 deskphone?

So basically nothing I can get working at all with video via system unless they use softphone or direct media to handset off the system

Video door entry systems should always run independent of the phone system really (like alarm systems), there are proper setups available for this, no need to try and invent your own.
The system was never designed to do this so it's no surprise it isn't any good at it :)

Cheers AMRIDDLE, I take your point onboard, The Paxton system does have its own video phone as well but the customer doesn't want two different handsets on each desk that wants to answer and open the door, and as I can do this on almost all of my other IP enabled systems I had hoped Avaya would be able to cope....

Also if anyone knows how to get the Polycom VVX500 to register on the Avaya at all that would be a huge help

I am not saying it'll never work. You should be able to at least get it registered, how far have you got? Also do you mean the 1500 not 500?

Even if you get it working its use as a everyday system phone will be minimal at best :)

It is a Polycom VVX500 Im installing not the VVX1500, I'll look through the doc you posted but my main concern is its not even registering at the moment !

It will register, if it isn't you haven't got the parameters set correctly, it's always a bit of guesswork what goes where as every manufacturer does it differently, even between their own models :)
