I am installing several Polycom conference systems, and a Polycom expert I am not...So hopefully some of you guys have done some of these. Its basically a very high quality conference phone ( two expanded micrphones that get mount over head.At each end of the microphone cables are a smaller version of a RJ-11,either a 3.5 (mini)or 2.5(micro).Which of this type is it on the jumper. As of now I cannot find doc's on the specifics. Can these be crimped with a standard RJ-11 crimper?Ive never been faced with this type of plug, thanks.

Unless they changed the connectors, last time I worked on one of those it was either a rj11 or the regular handset size size connector. I know I didn't have to get anything special. So from what you are saying, I would think it was the handset connector.

I use regular handset clips to shorten the cables on the spider mics.

Thanks guys...I did relize today that these were indeed handset modular plug size. Can you crimp the handset size plugs with a standard RJ-11 crimper.Thanks.

Not with a standard one. The two outside punches will crush the plastic of the plug.

Hi cablepuller
The Polycom comes with all plugs connected, please don't shorten the cables as you can damage the connectivity.

you need a crimper of the proper size I have seen some low end crimpers for this plug (I believe its a rj22 )

If you have a crimper that takes dies you can get a die for it, its a handy thing to have in general you can shorten 25'handset cords get two 12.5's you can also cure a lot of static calls without changing the curly cord by crimping new plugs on the end ..very handy for repairing those odd colored special order cords

Thanks for the help guys. The connectors on the ext. mic line are in fact handset mod plugs.I also ended up finding a crimper made by Greelee that crimps 11,45,and handset plugs for around $70.Thanks.
