We're trying to install a Polycom 550D on an Option 11C Mini, and I'm beginning to wonder if there is an incompatability issue. When you go off-hook the phone will not draw dial-tone. When you install a 2616 on the same port, it works fine.

We had Polycom replace the phone and the replacement didn't work either. This 11C is on Succession 4.0.

small problem, note the poly-550d is compatable with the "norstar" system, good phone, wronge switch.. if you have access to a small key system you can run a analog trunk as a line, and use the phone behind your switch, otherwise it's the next buy it now on ebay

Are you saying that the 550D is only good on the Norstar? That's interesting because we have a couple on our 81C.

And I found this on Polycom's website:

Using theSoundStation Premier 500D/550D Meridian with a Nortel Norstar PBX

The SoundStation Premier 500D/550D Meridian is not compatible with Nortel Norstar Switches. Some indicators that a customer is dealing with a Norstar switch are:

Modular ICS
MICS
Compact ICS
CICS
7000 Series phones
Some Nortel Norstar PBX boxes have the word Meridian on them, however if the one of the above items are being used with the PBX, it is indeed a Norstar PBX Switch.

There is a Nortel branded SoundStation available through Nortel that works on Norstar PBX's.

the 7000 series phones are norstar key system phones, they do not work on a meridian pbx they do work on the meridian key system.. a key system is usuall less the 100 stations the 81 tops off at around 16000 ports.. polycom does make a conf phone for both, the web site i posted says that model is compatable with a norstar key system, meaning it can not be compatable with a opt 11.. if i'm wronge it will not be the 1st time is 35 years as a telephone man, but i have never heard of a digital phone that would cross that line

The Polycom 500/550D is a Polycom conference phone manufactured for the Meridian 11C - 81C line. They also have a 500/550D for the Definity (which makes it nice and confusing).

Here is more info from Polycom's site:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SoundStation Premier 500D/550D is compatible with any digital voice port on NORTEL® Meridian®, Meridian 1
(option 11 to 81), SL-1, or SL-100 PBX with the exception of those supporting MBS (CENTREX®) phone sets.
In addition to the basic product functions, it supports two special functions - Conference and Transfer - in the same manner as the
default M2616 Model 20, using key number position 3 for Conference and key number position 6 for Transfer. Contact
your PBX Administrator to confirm that the Conference and Transfer functions at the port are assigned to these key number
positions.
My issue is with using the 550D on an 11C Mini. Polycom R&D just came back to me and said the 550D is not compatible with a Mini Carrier Remote. However, last time I checked the MCR and 11C Mini are quite different.
a mcr is a multi call ring key, a mini 11 uses the same phones as a 81c
MCR is also an acronym for the Mini Carrier Remote. That's the device that allows you to extend your PBX to another location via special cards in an IPE shelf connected to a T-1 that goes to your remote site.
And yes, since the 11C uses the same phones as an 81C, I'm trying to get some help with using the Polycom 550D on an 11C Mini (or Chassis).
yes i do have carrier remotes, no mini's but have one on order, i thought he had a 11c mini, and i've only seen a couple of those, but do use 3000 and 2000 series not 7000 series, the mcr, made me scratch my head, result of a brain freeze..
