When I open Policy Spy on my SMS server and try to connect to a remote computer, I receive a message saying "No policy availabe at this time". Down at the bottom of the screen under Client Info, I see this message "There is no client installed on this machine.Connection to client policy failed with error 8004100E"

I'm seeing the problem while trying to connect to any and all remote comupters (remote being any computer besides the SMS Server).

Has anyone seen this issue before?

No but I'm seeing it now.... :( What did you do to get past it?

Thanks,
Mark

I've not used Policy Spy for a very long time, but doesn't it only monitor the local machine it is running on. So if you dont have the SMS client on the site server, then it will return an error. I may be wrong.

Hope this Helps.

Do you have local admin rights on these PC's to access WMI?

Is Distributed COM activated?

OK, I just installed Toolkit2, and you can do remote, so I was wrong in that instance. Even if you specify that the user account to user has admin rights....it still wont work. The current user that you are logged on as, has to have admin rights to the Site Server. From what I have just tested. Logging onto a client as a standard user will not give local, or remote policies...logging on as Domain Administrator on the normal XP client, and running policy spy will return both local and remote machines policies, if i log on as a standard user, that has LOCAL ADMIN rights only, and not domain, it will return local policy but even specifying a domain admin username and password on the remote connection, will give you the old error.

Summary

LogedInUSER | LocalPol | RemotePol
------------------------------------
DomainUser | FAIL | FAIL
LocalAdmin | PASS | FAIL
DomainAdmin | PASS | PASS

Hope this Helps.

The account that I'm using is a Domain Admin. It appears to work sporadically now so it's improving. One thing that I'm noticing now is that in order to connect to a remote machine using policy spy from the SMS server, I have to have an advertisement scheduled for that machine (this works sometimes now).

Thanks for your replies!

Sheldon

You shouldn't need an advertisement, as long as the target machine has the SMS Client installed, it should work

Hope this Helps.
