Hi there,
I'm having problems setting up policies. I've read many documentations, followed every step but when a PC logs on to the network it doesn't read it's policy file. Wondering what did i do wrong. First of all i created a policy file on a PC, named it config.pol and put that file in /home/samba/netlogon. Still no use. I named that config.pol after the PC's name, still no use.
I've noticed something else: when i make that policy file on the PC using poledit, the policy is implemented on the workstation and that's not what i really want. I would like to make every workstation to have a policy file and when they log on they should take their policy file from my netlogon directory and run it. Where did i do wrong or what else should i make to achieve my goal?
Thanks alot.

i've been implementing the same thing and have discovered that you need to call the policy NTConfig.POL for anything above win98/me clients.

you then need to save the policy in root of your samba/netlogon share, make suse permissions are 755 so that users can only read the policy not write to it.

you cannot place the NTConfig.POL file in a directory within the netlogon share this doesn't work. this means you can only have one policy for all you pc's.

Good luck!

Thanks for the tip but it's still not enough, i mean that i have 35 PC's in the LAN and i want to put in my netlogon share a policy file for each machine. I'ts quite hard to emplement the same rules for the the whole network. The thing is that i have not defined any groups, yet so i can use a single policy per group. That's why i need policies for each machine separately and here i've got stuck :)
Ahy tips?
Thanks alot.

Hi there.
Finally i made it. I defined some groups and then i used poledit, added those groups then added the users and edited each user's policy (rights). For those who are new to this i have to tell that there's a single policy named config.pol that contains all groups and users. This config.pol you need to put it in your /netlogon directory. For NT/Win200 users there's another policy named NTConfig.pol like said above.
Thanks alot for your help.
