polaroid burn max 32

I have a Polaroid burnmax 32x from office max. Ide connection, 196 megs ram, Pentium III cpu, win98se.
Can't get it to burn at optimal rate. Take 12 minutes to burn a cd. Polaroid is yanking my chain over tech support.
Tried assigning its own dma channel with no improvemnt.
Any ideas. Cost 129 dollars.

what does your other cd rom speed, what is your hard drive speed and how defragmented is the drive, are you running any other apps, take all that into consideration, if your burner is on the same ide cable as the hdd or cdrom that will slow it down some also, just some stuff to check, let us konw whats up after that
