I have a network with a internet connection for all users. I just installed a cable modem and want to be able to give certain individuals their connection through the cable modem instead of the main connection, how can I do this and where in the web based router gui can I find the info I need to setup the info ?

You can't. That's why the Default Gateway is called "DEFAULT GATEWAY". The gateway to your local router, where all your local routes are stored.

If you change the users "Default" gateway information, then when the workstation or applications on that workstation require information on the network, it will NOT be able to find it, because you changed the "default" gateway. Thing such as DNS... Becareful, remember DNS has caching, so If you want to go back, you'll have to flush the DNS or else you won't even LOG IN.

Change the settings on the PROXY server so that it will look to the Cable Modem Router as it's default Gateway, then users who are allowed access will get service from the cable modem instead from the main network.

Or, add a router.

mtbiker's comments above about using a NAT/DHCP capable router still strikes a chord with me.

For broadband connections (Cable or DSL) place the modem into bridge mode and add the additional network appliance of a true store-and-forward router. These are no longer very expensive.

Or at a minimum, add a switch. This will reduce the load on the modem/router device, and simplify the local LAN side of things.

I am all set, sorry for not posting it earlier.
