Pointer to files stored in Document library

Please pardon my ignorance.

I am a SQL Server DBA that has been asked to help out.

We have too many files on a file server, there is a script that is run once a day to upload those files to the document library in sharepoint.

Instead of copying these files into the content database, is there a way we can just point to the files.

hey,

Why would you want to point to the file server? because any pointing out must mean the path must be accessible from the client browser which may not be the case.

if your idea is to not store the files on MOSS then why use a shared library? Why not a custom list?
