I have a point to point T1 between 2 Merlin Magix that has been the source of numerous posts, ending it it 'magically' fixing itself without CLEC intervention. Worked fine for 3 weeks. Power outage last night, and now I have something I have never seen before. The calls across the T1 are acting fine except for there is no voice. If I call internally, the T1 goes orange, and the person I am calling at location B sees me on the incoming display but I hear nothing. When they pick up the phone there is nothing but silence. The silence remains until someone hangs up.

If I call a DID number that goes across the T1 and rings at location 2 the same thing happens - the inbound caller ID appears on the screen, the line appearance flashes like its an incoming call, but when you answer the phone no one is there. Just silence. Both the T1's have the orange light lit until someone hangs up. So it is like a functioning T1 except for no voice path. Any suggestions? Thanks!

You had me at "power outage"

When it works and a power outage kills it try power cycling both merlins in the proper fashion. I would start with the one that had the outage and test before moving to the other.

Hopefully you have a backup of the translations..so you can
do a restore....maybe the power outage corrupted the files..
just a thought.

It sounds like the power failure may have glitched the voice channel portion or functionality of the 100D DS1 module. Depending on level of access, short of having the client power cycle the system, you might try resetting the 100D via remote maintenance, and see if that helps on each end.

Powered everything up and down, no change. Cleared errors, reset the boards, nothing worked. Someone here (I want to say SYQUEST, but if it was someone else please feel free to take credit) suggested to me on another issue that if all else fails when programming a point to point, change a location from PBX to Network and back again (or vice versa) - that did the trick. So whoever it was thanks!!

Can both ends successfully make local, non-networked station-to-station calls? I ask because I'm inclined to believe that the problem would more likely arise in a station card than a DS1 card.

Networking relies on a D-Channel for signaling, which isn't much different from the voice channels...it's all just bits and derived clock. And since the signalling seems to work end-to-end, it would be unlikely that only the voice bearer channels were broken at the DS1 interface itself.

Of course the processor is part of the whole switch fabric, but I would think that successful outbound and local station-to-station calling would clear that piece.

BTW, does the remote end have an alternate way of making outbound calls? Or does that switch rely entirely on being able to access dialtone from the host end?

Another update...a little foggy on when this happened but...

Ten-digit dialing works. And it has to rely on the point to point T1, as they are DID numbers that switch A sends to switch B. The calls, however, are not forwarding to voice mail after 4 rings (you just hear dead air) and they cannot utilize 3-digit dialing between the locations. For example - if I call 480-xxx-3541, which is a DID number at location B, it rings on his desk and he receives correct caller ID (including a channel number that indicates it came via the point to point T1.) If he doesn't answer, it rings four times and I get silence.

If someone at location A dials 541, it rings once at location B, the display shows the extension number, but both ends hear silence. Any suggestions as to what could be causing this? Thanks.
