I'm trying to help a customer that has a point to point VPN setup between two Sonicwall devices.
My question is do I need to enable the VPN firmware on the phone? The phone is a 5610swip.
I don't think that I do, from the VM server I can ping the phones and pc's.
When the phone is plugged in it times out trying to find the TFTP server ( I had them hard code that IP addresses) and then finally comes up and asks for the extension. I have the user put that in with his password, 1234. I get the folloing error. Wrong set type, I tried removing the extension so that it might auto create. But no luck..

If you have a pt to pt VPN there is no need for the VPN firmware on the phone. Thats what the pt to pt is for. Sounds like either you don't have a IP endpoint license (Depending on the version you are running) or the phone firmware isn't upgraded. If you are using Manager as your tftp and it's on the voicemail server, make sure manager is open and then open the tftp log and make sure the phone pulls the right files. (Thats assuming all the correct IP addresses are entered in the phone).

Sorry I did not mention that it is on version 5.0, so I think that I'm good with the licenses.
I will check the tftp log, Manager is open at the time of connection. How do you determine the exact files that it needs?

Did you tick the allow VPN option under the extension you created?

Ignore the above - should read things twice this early in the morning.

boot the phone. press Mute then type "clear" (25327)

delete the base extn it has created.

try again. if TFTP fails over the vpn - which is not uncommon, then just set up a local TFTP server to get the correct BIN files.

also make sure your "Group" is set back to 0 (assuming you have been trying to get VPN firmware on it ;-) )

I tried to do the mute clear on the phone with no success.
If I load a tftp server on a local machine on their network do I just move the Manager folder to that machine?
Also not sure how to set the group back to one. The VPN firmware is on the phone. So far all I can do is to disable it when the phone prompts to configure or disable.
