Point to point and PRI T1 - does order matter?

I have a customer with a point-to-point T1 in slot 5 on a Magix R4. I am converting their incoming lines to a PRI T1. The second board is in slot 9. Whenever we try and install it the D channel appears momentarily and then drops immediately with a lot of errors that according to the T1 vendor look like timing errors. Does the PRI have to be in the first slot (5 instead of 9)for the clocking to work correctly?

As a second question - has anyone used a Cisco router with a cross connect cable directly to a DS1 board on a Magix? I had a problem with an Integra install using a Cisco router where they had to switch to an AdTran but this is through XO - and they cannot find a customer in Phoenix using PRI on a Magix - thanks for any suggestions on this.

Please post the configuration for the DS1s on the Magix. What clock options are you using on the Magix? It does not matter what slot is configured as PRI or DS1. Each DS1 has its own parameters. You might was to check the Feature Reference document for the Magix, it contains most of the info you might need. If you don't have it, you can download it for free: support.avaya.com

Plus, this forum has FAQs. Click on them and see if some of that info might help you.

The slot position is immaterial. If your D-Channel is falling down, it's most likely due to a protocol mismatch...that or you've got the 24th trunk programmed as a member of the outgoing pool.

I don't know how the tech could attribute "a lot of errors" to network timing with any confidence. Frankly, it sounds like it was close to 5:00pm and he was late for the door. Wake me up at 3:15am with a start, and I could probably STILL name five things that are more likely to contribute to a failed D-Channel.

I would take Jim's suggestion about posting your config. Do that and I'm sure we'll be on our way to getting this problem ironed out.

Both installation failures were 5:00 jobs with a tech who has never seen a Merlin Magix. I am starting to worry about the Cisco router and the type of service the vendor is able to provide as the issues. I will post configs as soon as the customer opens. Jim - I am pretty sure I have memorized the Legend Networking guide by now - for some reason it seems all my jobs this year have been problematic point to point T1's on Merlin Magix - why can't everyone just buy new phone systems??? Oh well - I guess it is job security.
