Point to a certain record in a combo box

Hello. I would like to find out if it would be possible to point to a certain record in a combo box based on the criteria entered into a login form (user ID text box). For example, I enter a user ID and password and it brings me to a form which has a user ID combo box field. That combo box should point to the same information as entered into the user ID text box of the login form. Please advise. Life is too short to waste...
