Hi,
We will shortly br rolling out a new ip pbx using our existing 450 stacks. From what i know 450s dont support any kind of poe for the new ip endpoints. Anyone confirm this, is there any way round it?

tks.

BayStack 350 and 450 switches are not power over Ethernet (PoE) switches.

One option is to keep those switches and use power injectors, which are patched inline between the switch and the user cables.

The other option is to upgrade to newer switches that support power over Ethernet. I think the direct replacement for your switches would be the 470-24T-PWR or the 470-48T-PWR depending on how many ports you wanted. There are also PoE switches in the 2500, 4500, and 5500 product lines if you would want additional features.

Earlier versions of some switches, injectors, and phones didn't always have compatible PoE standards - especially if you used different vendors. These days things are much better but its always wise to do a small test project with just a few devices before making a large investment.

Just to add to what has already been said... the BayStack 450 switches don't even support QoS (802.1p). I would strongly advise you to use at least an Ethernet Switch 460-24TPwR (PoE) or Ethernet Switch 470 24T,48T-PwR (PoE) if you intend to use VoIP.

Cheers!
