PO Approval Process not working for Integrated POs

I have a PO integration setup (Sql optimized), using an existing GP user as the login (had to modify password in SQL so that it wasn't encrypted). This user is setup with a $ limit. I ran the integration for one PO that was over the limit, one below, but they are both showing as unapproved, even though one is clearly within the approval limit.

The User 2 Enter field has been updated with this user, so why has the approval functionality not kicked in? Why do the sql optimized adapters only work with such limited functionality?
