I know this might be out in left field a bit, but do any of y'all use the Lucent PMVision Java app to administer Magix INA boards? I was using this handy utility but I can't get the self-contained Java VM to register on my new Win2K box. It's a shame, because this utility is great and all.

Otherwise I'll stick with my old laptop running Win98SE in order to plug in using PMVision. Just wondering...

I found out some tips on creating a batch script to launch PMVision. There's a site at that pointed me in the right direction. Since the Magix INA board uses the PortMaster ComOS this site was right on target. Just an FYI for anyone else using INA cards for reference purposes.

I'll try that. I used PM Vision on a W95 machine with no problems. W2K, and oops no joy. Did you get it to work on 2000?

Yep. You can't run an external Java 1.x installation or the included PMVision JRE in Windows 2000 since you'll get Privileged Instruction errors or other errors. I had to download Java 2 SDK and launch PMVision through that with a batch script file.

What I did was:

1) Downloaded the UNIX version of PMVision. I got v1.11 from Portmasters.Com.
2) Downloaded and installed the Java 2 SDK from This is a registered and privileged app under Win2K. Any of the Java 1.x stuff won't entirely work.
3) Extracted all of the PMVision jar files in a folder on the C: drive. I used C:\PMVision as my location. If you only have the Java 2 SDK installed you'll have to extract all of the files using the java -jar command. Otherwise if you have a legacy Java installation you can use the jar command.
4) Created a batch file used to launch PMVision. For example, mine came out to being very straightforward.

c:
cd \pmvisionjavaw PMVision
exit

If you are comfortable with operating in the Java and CMD.exe console you should be fine. Let me know how it goes. The toughest part might be extracting the files if you haven't used either Java 2's java -jar command or Java 1.x's jar command...
