hello,
I have a user on PageMaker 6.5 updated to 6.52 trying to export PDF files and each time he does he gets the error "PM65.exe has generated errors and will need to be restarted" That is all the error gives, no details, or any idea of what exactly happend. My steps are as follows: I open an existing pm file and work on it, save it, and then go to export pdf. It does its thinking and info gathering then I hit Export and IMMEDIATLY get the PM65 error.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the software and tryed it with just pm 6.5 and got the same thing. Please help me!! This is really killin me (and my job :-0 )

Hello,
There could be several things causing this problem.
First thing to do is check the following:
file/links manager: make sure the links are not broken or they are up to date.
Make sure all linked items and the doc are on the harddrive and not on the network, zip or floppy disk.
Go to Utilities/plugins/save for service provider. Run the preflight pub. This will check the links and font to make sure they are all working correctly.
Use the adobe driver for the printer to write the pdf.
Use the adobe driver to print a ps file. Then distill it with distiller to get the pdf.
Also could be the settings in Distiller causing the problems.
Check the job options in distiller. Fonts embedded? print vs. press otimized and so on.
Also in distiller there is a setting to cancel the export if a problem (see the font tab, change this to warn and continue or ignore.
If none of these work, just leave a message on the settings in distiller

I have also had this problem, when going to file/export/pdf. But, when I set it up as a print driver and went to file/print/pdf it works just fine.

Another possibility is not embedding the times and helvetica's when making the pdf
