I took a screen shot for a class that I am teaching and saved it as an EPS file in Photoshop Elements. I got a message that some of the data would be lost using EPS. I then placed it in PageMaker 6.5, and yes, most of the data was lost. The result was nearly washed out.

I thought Elements and PM would play nice together! Am I doing something wrong?

Is there a better format that PM would like than EPS?

Thanks,

angler,

If you are using Photoshop Elements to create images, a TIFF would be best to use. Photoshop's version of an EPS is not a true EPS file, ie. it is a raster image, not a true vector image. I recommend to use EPS only if created from a vector app such as Illustrator or CorelDraw.

One problem with Elemenst is that it does not allow you to convert to CMYK, and so is not suitable if the graphics are destined for prepress. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

Thanks, I'll try TIFF's instead. I have been using Paint to create and crop screenshots, but the screen version of it was so pixelated that I wasn't sure I was getting good resolutiuon until it printed.

The printed version was OK; I just thought EPS would be the best.

Thanks for your help.

The images you see on screen in PM are merely placeholders. As long as the original image is of sufficient resolution (I use 300DPI if the doc is to be printed) then your results should be sufficient. You can increase the screen res of placed images in PM, but this slows down redraw time, and I don't recommend it. You will get used to the fuzzy onscreen appearance in time. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.
