I have received a file from someone (a PMD) file that I opened with my PM6.2. They included all the support files and I have checked the links to make sure the program sees where everything is. I need to make a .pdf out of the file so I print it to PS. Problem: when I try to distill it distiller errors out and flushes the job.... I create lots of similar PS files and distill with no problems. Is there something that's not quite right with the PM file? What should I look for. The fonts are all simple ones that I have installed on my computer... Thank You!

Do you get an error log when you try and distill? Make sure under File>Preferences, you have got 'delete error log' unchecked. The error messages can often be very helpful in trying to determine what the problem is. My first bet would be some sort of font problem.

Here is the error I got when trying to distill this file:

%%[ Error: undefined; OffendingCommand: II* ]%%
Stack:
-mark-
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%

I then tried removing the graphics from the page and trying to make a .pdf with just the text. Worked fine! Then i tried with all the graphics except for one .eps logo. Worked fine! Somehow that file must be corrupted? I will open it in a photo editing program and convert it to something else and give it a shot. Thanks for your advice!

Hi, PhoenixPubs,

Make sure your "Compose to" printer is Distiller or at least PostScript Printer - not a PCL driver.

Phoenix,

You found your problem. You have a corrupt graphic. I have had the same problem occur with EPS... sometimes opening and editing and saving back to a prior version of Illustrator, like AI8 will allow it to work. Other times, depending on the type of graphic, converting it to TIFF will work.

When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.
