PM 7 freezes Mac on "export PDF"

We were fine with creating PDF's within Pagemaker (since version 6 and now through 7) until we downloaded Acrobat Reader 5.01 for the Mac.
Now PM6; PM6.5; and PM7 are unable to create PDF files. Any attempt to "create PDF" results in the PM file window closing and the Mac "freezing"... requires a hard restart. This is happening on our Mac OS 9.2 computer and on our MacOS 8.6.
We need some help with this one!
Before downloading Acrobat Reader 5.0 I threw away Acrobat Reader 4.0. I have rebuilt the desktop on both computers... no improvement.

Hi,

I think the upgrade you installed was only ment for OSX, that could be the case. Anyway it is always better to make a pdf in a two step manner. Print your file as a ps document using the correct settings, afterwards start distiller and let distiller make the pdf with the settings you want.

I tried printing to a ps file and have Distiller (4.0) save to a pdf but Distiller returns "null" and will not create pdf.

what message did you get from distiller?

Error Message was "Flushing:rest of job (to end of file) will be ignored."
"Warning: PostScript error. No PDF File produced"

I get this message on every attempt. Distiller will get 32% complete and then just full the window with "null-null-null-null" and then end with the error messages. However, when creating the PS file separately and then running Distiller, the Mac does not freeze. Trying to create the PDF from within Pagemaker results in a freeze everytime.

Does the log indicate which page that is? You may have a troublesome graphic on that page.

Use only TIFF or EPS graphics when making PDFs.

File was single page - no graphics.

Remember, I indicated we were having the same problem with another file on another computer. The problem did not exist until I trashed Acrobat Reader 4.x in favor of downloading Reader 5.x.

As I mentioned, we are able to create PDFs by converting to PS and then running distiller. I just wanted to know if others have had similiar problems with PageMaker (6.5 & 7.0) and and the "export to PDF" command when switching to Reader 5.0.

We are having the lockup problems on two different Macs ( a G-3 and a G-4) and two different versions of Pagemaker, each with their own unique serial number.
