I'm running a Mac G4 with 500 megs of ram, system 9.0.2. PageMaker 6.5 has been on this machine for almost two years. In the last few months it's been a little flakey in a particular way: Whenever I quit PageMaker, it would destabilize my Mac, and a freeze would follow immediately or soon after.
Then, a couple of days ago, it decided not to launch at all. When I double click the program's icon, it begins to launch, briefly displays the first screen, and then quits. No error message or any other clues. I've tried: rebuilding the pram, rebuilding the desktop, trying to launch with all extensions turned off, removing and reinstalling the program, installing the program onto a Zip disk and attempting to run it from that. I also ran a virus check. No luck. Do I have to upgrade my system software to 9.1? I'd appreciate any help out there.

Thanks!

Hello Benjmar,

Yes, you do need to upgrade to 9.1. For a temporary fix, go to Sherlock and search for aldtmp, you should have around 100 of these files. Delete them and you should be able to open pagemaker again. Upgrading to 9.1 will permanently resolve this issue.

Good luck,
