Hi Folks

I have had strange experiences of installing AIX on F50, 43P and J40 - they all seem to have different ways of bringing up the installation menu.

Now I am trying to do complete installation on the new pSeries 6E1 (610) server (AIX 5.2 is already installed on it). I have tried pressing all sorts of function keys F1, F5 as instructed on AIX manual for installing AIX, none of these worked.

Have any of you installed AIX 4.3.3 on the above server, if so please tell me what I should do?

Thanking you all in advance.

Regards

K

the key is dependent on the server, not the version of AIX and thus wouldn't be found in the AIX manual - but rather the manuals that came with the machine. Which key you press i believe depends on whether you're using a graphical display or ascii terminal.

i *believe* if you're booting ascii you hit "5" when it's booting and you see lots of "***"'s being drawn to the screen.. if graphical you hit F5 when the keyboard icon appears.

but verify in your manual :)

You need to either alter the service boot list in AIX by issuing "bootlist -m service -o" to check the current list, and set it using something like "bootlist -m service cd0 hdisk0 hdisk1" This will make it read the cdrom 1st when booting into maintanance mode. (F5/5) just after the beep.

Alternativly use the F1 / 1 key to enter SMS utilities. From here you can select the install device and run the installation.

Many thanks that helped.

Installed first CD of AIX 4.3.3 on 6E1 and no probs until screen requested for the type of monitor (ibm3151) so entered the code and screen went funny and locked itself off. I had to reboot the box and the same thing happened.

Have any of you experienced this kind of probs, it can't be a faulty monitor as it worked previously when AIX 5.2 was already installed on the machine.

Any idea why?

Thanking you all in advance.
